Mike Zhu
Hi! My name is Mike Zhu and I am a full-time wedding cinematographer! I am a Chinese American (though I wish I could speak better!!) and a Queens native.
It is my passion to create stories from your love. If I’m not filming a wedding you can find me exploring nature, playing basketball, or eating! I am married to the best second shooter and the love of my life, Daphne. I also live with two cats and love them both to death.
My journey as a filmmaker started in high school after watching a unique basketball video online. Up to that point, I’ve only seen basketball “highlight” videos, but this video was different and struck chords within me emotionally. I was inspired by the storytelling and downloaded my own basketball clips to create a video. I uploaded a basketball video on YouTube and it received a lot of interaction. People commented on how the video inspired them and how emotional they got while watching. Once I realized that my videos can have that sort of impact I knew I wanted to become a filmmaker.
When I film, I always aim to capture real authentic moments. I will be there to capture the smiles, the laughter, the tears, and all of the wide range of emotions that happen on your wedding day! My couples always tell me that they didn’t even realize I was there. I never want to be the center of attention so you can count on me to shoot and create wonderful video while being as discreet as possible. Stop by my contact page to say hello! I would love to meet you :)
Daphne Zhen
Hi there! I’m Daphne :)
I never expected to be doing wedding videos alongside Mike, but love has its way of making really unimaginable things a reality.
When Mike started pursuing this work, capturing real love between real people, I loved hearing about his couples and seeing clips of them finding each other in the littlest of moments during what can sometimes be a very big, momentous, face paced day. I wanted to try my hand at it and I also strongly believe that it is a joy and privilege to spend a day with each couple and witness their love.
You can usually find me hanging back, capturing the small yet meaningful details of your day. My hope is that when couples sit together and watch their wedding videos, they’re able to relive all the meaningful moments of their day — from seeing all their friends & family to the beautiful venues, decor, and ambiance of the day.
DO I NEED CINEMATOGRAPHY FOR MY WEDDING DAY?
Short answer, Yes! I HIGHLY recommend it!
"Not hiring a videographer is probably one of the most common regrets I see couples have. Your wedding day will be one of the most special moments of your life. All of your planning culminates in one day, and that day flies by in the blink of an eye. Being able to relive your ceremony, your parents' heartfelt speeches, your friends tearing up the dance floor, and other special moments—five, ten, twenty, or more years down the line—is priceless."
LET’S TRUST EACH OTHER!
The most important thing is for you to enjoy your wedding day. You worked hard to plan this day and the last thing we would want is for you to worry about your vendors! Your wedding day should be effortless. So have fun, be yourselves, and enjoy the moment :)
